A full service, done-with and done-for-you
Course Creation Experience.
You know you have something amazing to share with the world. You’ve got a course inside of you- you just don’t know how to get it out!
You have the passion, the knowledge, and know that it is time to put it all into course form- you just have no clue how to deal with all the tech and how to make those pro-style workbooks and worksheets. Maybe you don’t know what to include and what to leave out. Or maybe you have a course idea, but aren’t sure that people will actually buy your course once it is finished.
Introducing Course Co-Creation!
What does co-creation mean?
Simple! You show up with your knowledge and expertise, and I take care of the rest! This isn't another course about creating courses- this is a customized experience where I walk beside you every step of the way, guiding and assisting you to manifest the course of your dreams. I even help you to sell it once it's finished! Who else does that?
Note: Because this is such an intimate, involved process, I only co-create courses with people who I “vibe” with. I give my all to each and every course co-creation client, and so I only work with people of integrity who are ready to share their expertise with the world.
I don’t work with people who are wanting to “cheat” through this process, and have someone else make a course for them. Certainly, I will help you with conceptualizing and editing your content, and will help you to create something of high value, but the actual content will be coming from your heart, your experience, and your expertise. My job is to coax out your greatness and show it off, chiseling off the fluff, honing it into something amazing!
This is why my course co-creation experience is limited to just a few people per quarter, and is available by application only.
HOW DOES THE COURSE CO-CREATION PROCESS WORK?
First, we have a virtual meeting where we discuss what you want to teach, who your target market is, and make sure that you are giving your audience exactly what they need so that your course will be poised for success as soon as your launch it. This is actually the most important part of creating a course- and it is a part that many people skip in their haste to just get something out there.
We will create a list of all the needs that your target market is experiencing, and will also make lists of all the features and benefits that your course will deliver. Not only does this help you figure out the exact details of what you'll be teaching, but this information will be key when it is time to start marketing your course after it's finished (you didn't think that I'd leave you hanging after your course is finished, did you? Heck no! Marketing is definitely something we will be working on together, too!)
We will also discuss strategies for increasing your revenue by offering variations of your course, or extra bonuses, etc. By planning all of this up front, you can save yourself a lot of extra time and effort afterwards! We can also decide if you are wanting to create your course as a beta-program (where you would create one or two modules up front, start selling your course as a "beta" version, and create the rest of the modules as the beta run progresses), or if you'd rather have it completely finished by the time you start selling.
After our meeting, I have you prepare an outline of everything your course will be covering, and also send me a rough draft of all the content you want to have included in your workbooks and/or worksheets. I then create a rough draft of those workbooks and/or worksheets in .PDF form, so that as you are teaching your class, you can reference "the exercise on page 11," and so forth. I send this to you for approval, and, assuming that you like what you see, we schedule a time to record your videos!
Recording Your Audio and Video
This is when the fun starts! So many people let this recording part be their hang-up, but it doesn't have to be. Let's face it- your videos are most likely not going to look like Marie Forleo, Gary V, or Casey Neistat made them. And you know what? That's ok! People aren't coming to your course because they want drone shots of you creating your course while lounging on a beach in the Bahamas. They are coming to you for the knowledge that you have to share, and that is what we will be delivering.
Most of the time, I have us utilize BeLive.tv to record the videos. There are two main methods that I use to help people record their course:
1. You, alone, are showing on camera. I will be there with you the whole time, but behind the scenes, so that your recording only shows you. As you teach, I will stop you from time to time, helping you to clarify things that might need further explanation, telling you when you weren't being clear or confident enough, and just generally making sure that you are coming across as the amazing knowledgeable pro that you are!
It is easy sometimes to forget what a newbie needs to hear about your topic of expertise, and that is why having me in the background can be so helpful! If I don't understand what you are trying to teach, then your students won't either, so this method ensures that you teach everything that your audience needs in order to leave your course with everything you've promised to deliver.
2. An interview-style presentation where I ask you questions that allow you to teach everything as the "Expert" on your topic. This method makes a lot of first-time course creators a lot more comfortable, because, rather than talking to an inanimate camera with what feels like nobody on the other end, you are sharing your knowledge with a real-life human being.
As you are teaching, I may occasionally ask you questions, just like an in-person student would. This furthers your expert status, and also ensures that you are teaching things in the clearest way possible.
All the questions I ask you will follow the outline that you'd previously developed.
No matter which option you choose, you will have an unlimited number of "takes." If you feel like you messed up, or sounded weird, or didn't say things exactly how you wanted to, we just start that part over. After the recording session is done, then I edit everything, taking out all the "bloopers."
I can also add in slides or other graphics at this point (I can even create those graphics for you so that they match your workbooks and worksheets!).
If you want to offer an audio version of your course, I can "rip" the audio from the video to create that. Courses that offer multiple ways for people to consume them are perceived as higher value- so this is a great way to round out your course offering!
Getting It Online
There are probably hundreds of different ways to deliver your course to your students. Some people decide to use an online platform like Udemy, Teachable or Thinkific, some people use Wordpress plugins, some people want to host it on their website in a password-protected area, and some people want to email it one module at a time.
We will chat about all your options, and then I'll help you get your class onto your chosen platform. I can even build a website for you if that is something you need!
Words and Images That Sell
I hate to break it to you, but just creating a course isn't going to make you millions. Unless you know how to get people interested in what you have to say, your course will languish on your digital shelf collecting digital dust.
This is where that handy dandy list of your target market's problems and your features and benefits comes in handy! We will work together to turn all of that information into sales letters, copy for your website, ads, emails, and whatever else you'll need to promote and sell your course to the masses!
And once we have all the right words, then I create images to go along with them. I create mockups of your workbooks, course website, and any other supporting collateral that you need to present your final product to the world.
Depending on the selling strategy that we decide upon, I can also create lead magnets for you, help you set up a 5-day-challenge in your Facebook group, and/or create funnels to lead people down the path towards working with you.
To Sum Up
This isn't just another course about creating courses- this is an experience where I walk beside you every single step of the way, from figuring out what you will even talk about, to recording it, to making it look gorgeous, to putting it on the market. You will never feel alone or overwhelmed, and you will never get stuck not knowing what to do next.
This is the program that you need in order to get your knowledge and expertise out of your head and into the world.
I've never taught anything before in my life! Can I actually do this?
C'mon... we all know that's not true! You've taught a lot of people a lot of things in your day, from showing someone how to use the copier, to teaching your parents how to program their VCR when you were 12, to teaching your kid how to tie their shoes, to teaching your techy brother in law how to be less socially awkward (yeah, it probably didn't work, but at least you tried!).
If you could explain to me on our phone call how to do the thing you want to create your course about, then you can definitely create a course! I will be right there with you, helping you through the whole process so you don't have to feel overwhelmed by #allthethings. You'll just take it one step at a time, and before you know it, you'll have a finished course!
What if my course is about something obscure like underwater basketweaving?
First of all, underwater basketweaving is not quite as obscure as you might think...
But seriously, if you want to create a course about it, then I can help! During our initial meeting, we will talk about your target audience, and I will help you to make sure that you are niched enough (but not too niched!) in order to create a course that is marketable.
There are people online who have five and six figure courses teaching everything from how to play the guitar to how to audition for orchestras to how to live the tiny-house lifestyle to how to do magic tricks and more! If there are passionate people in your niche, then there is room for a successful course. Why shouldn't that successful course be yours?
Why do you only create a rough draft of the workbook instead of the final version before I record the videos?
I want to make sure that the "tone" of the images, fonts, and layout matches the way you come across in your videos. If I made a very modern, minimalist workbook, for example, but you came across as really fun and bubbly on your class videos, then the workbook wouldn't really match you very well, and wouldn't give you as professional of an image as a more colorful, exciting workbook would.
Also, as you are teaching, you or I might just come up with something else that you'd like to include in your workbook that you hadn't considered before you started recording. Keeping things in rough-draft form allows you to feel more flexible and open to perfecting things on the go!
It is my goal to make sure that each element works together to support every other element for your course, so that's why I wait so I can make sure that things are absolutely perfect!
Will I need a bunch of fancy technical equipment to create my course?
No... not exactly.
You don't need to rent a professional recording studio or hire a hair and makeup person (although that does sound kinda fun and fancy...).
I believe that you can create a perfectly salable course very inexpensively.
The most important factors are good sound and good lighting. For some people, this means recording next to a window using their Apple headphones that have a mic built in. If you wanted to take it up a notch, you could buy a good mic and purchase some nice lights. This can run you less than $100 (for a cheap lapel mic and lighting that you DIY from those construction clip-on lamps), while my favorite setup involves (affiliate links) this "Snowball" mic and this ring light, costing about $160 total for both. You could also spend a lot more than that if you wanted a 3-point lighting setup, a custom background, and a wireless lapel mic or overhead mic setup.
I would recommend that you put some solid thought into your production value. You are probably planning to sell your finished course for more than $160, so to me it feels like a no-brainer to invest a little in your tools.
With that being said, however, many people have created courses using their computer's built-in camera and mic, or even their phones!
Remember, the real reason people are taking your course is to learn something new. Your "production value"- aka, how pretty your course looks- can make your course look more expensive and professional, but if the actual knowledge isn't being shared, then a pretty course is just about as useful as a reality TV show.
If you would like to elevate your course, we can rent a studio and record your course with professional cameras, multiple angles, and professional videographers as well. I just don’t want you to think you have to do this!
We can hatch a plan that works for your budget and your desired level of "pretty" during our initial meet-and-greet phone call. But first, you need to fill out an application so I can make sure that we would be a good fit.
